Winemakers Comments: 2021 was the kindest vintage we have experienced in 9 years of Delinquente – a La Nina cycle bringing good spring rainfall, mild summer temperatures and cool, crisp nights. The Bassham Family Organic and Biodynamic vineyard, bursting with natural vitality and life, took full advantage of Mother Nature’s gift and produced beautiful quality fruit – sweet, layered, and with piercing acidity – and plenty of it too!

While the Delinquente wines focus on Southern and Central Italian varieties, the grapes native to the warmer parts of Spain and Portugal and equally as at home in the sun-drenched Riverland. To this end, the Bassham family have planted a portion of their vineyard to an amalgam of hardy Iberian varieties, which is the focus of our “High Crimes” Bag in Box wines.

Albarino and Arinto are the pick of the Iberian whites, and compliment each other incredibly well in a blend. Arinto is a stand out variety for us, maintaining its highwire acidity through the most glaring of heatwaves, whilst always bringing a structured, layered, complex stonefruit and orchard fruit profile. The Albarino benefitted most from the cooler season, really showcasing its bright lemon/grapefruit citrus and mineral characters, and bringing a lovely pop to this blend. Box wine done right, an acid driven, moreish, textural white perfect for beachside grilling.
